I've been homeschooling my only child, (gasp) since 1999. I have always been interested in education policy and research which was the focus of my graduate report.
Having listened to both my mother's and mother-in-law's experiences as public school teachers and talking to people who have just pulled their kids out of school, I believe what the press is showing just the tip of the iceberg rather than the exception of what is going on in schools today. Most people just don't want to see it.
I'm not on a mission to convince everyone that homeschooling is the solution to the problems in public education. I do think that we need to consider a variety of solutions if we really don't want to leave any child behind.
