There are several reasons why these budget shortfall days exist. Declining enrollment numbers continue to plague the district’s annual budget. Each student in the district represents approximately $5,000 a year. Students who have opted to homeschool or attend private schools have had a negative impact on the district’s finances.
So the school doesn’t have to pay anything to educate the students if they were to enroll, they just get the money for them? Actually, if I were much more cynical, I would say that this explains a lot about the public education system.
