Texas Ed: Comments on Education from Texas

June 24, 2006

So why are we even bothering with the TAKS?

So passing the TAKS isn’t preparation?

MySA.com: Commentary:

Of the new high school graduates enrolled at ACCD last fall, approximately 84 percent needed help in math, 42 percent needed remedial reading and 38 percent were lacking in English. Armed with a freshly minted diploma, many San Antonio-area high school graduates are dismayed and discouraged to learn they need remedial classes.

This is just one more problem with reporting. Granted, this is an opinion column but it seems to me such an obvious question, what percentage of these graduates passed the exit level TAKS?
