Texas Ed: Comments on Education from Texas

June 18, 2006

Just trust me

MySA.com: KENS 5: Education:

Caveon Test Security, a Utah-based company hired by TEA, audited last year’s test scores and flagged 609 schools statewide, nearly 9 percent, for irregularities. Local school district officials were instructed to investigate if they see fit, but the uncomfortable appearance of the same 14 schools on both the bonus list and list of possible cheaters spurred TEA on Friday to announce it will take action of its own.

Again, there are all kinds of legitimate reasons for a school to have had unexpected gains from year to year. However, TEA does look a little silly after saying it would leave it to the school districts to investigate until they realized some of the same schools were on the bonus list.
