But how are you going to keep them?

A great first step, if it goes through.

MySA.com: KENS 5: Education:

San Antonio Express-News The Northside Independent School District board of trustees tonight will consider approval of an employee compensation package that would give teachers, counselors, librarians and nurses a 5 percent pay increase, on top of a $2,000 raise coming from the state.

The question is, will the district be able to keep the teachers the salary attracts? Listening to teachers talk, too often they aren’t treated as professionals. As a sometime professional myself, I would never put up with the daily treatment often endured by teachers from administration and parents. My impression is many good teachers remain in the teaching profession despite rather than because of administration support. “Just let me teach” is the refrain.

Any good business knows that it costs more to replace an employee than to retain one. Maybe there is something school administrations can learn from businesses after all.
